Isis was celebrated in Greek and Roman lands, often syncretized with local deities and incorporated into local festivals and rituals. For example, in Egypt, her festivals included the Mysteries of Isis and Osiris, the Night of the Drop, and Isidis Navigatum, which were also celebrated in other Mediterranean regions, including Greece and Rome. These festivals involved processions, offerings, and rituals that honored her as a goddess of fertility, motherhood, and the sea. In Rome, she was invoked at the Sellisternia and known as Stella Maris, “star of the sea”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, there was a broader trend of cross-pollination among goddesses in the ancient world, with Isis being worshipped alongside other major goddesses such as Kybele and Demeter in various locations, including Libya and Eleusis. This syncretism often led to the blending of rituals and attributes among these deities<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Author Ellen Cannon Reed<\/a> was born on March 21, 1943. Ellen was a very active priestess, teacher and community leader for many years in Southern California. She became a member of the Fellowship of Isis in the 1970\u2019s. Her lively exchanges on the Fellowship of Isis members online discussion group are greatly missed. Along with her many other accomplishments, she was also a well respected author. Her writings include a wonderful book about her work and experiences with the deities of ancient Egypt titled \u201cCircle of Isis.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
