Here\u2019s how\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inhabiting my body used to be a struggle. My head was filled with anxiety, toxic thought patterns, self-deprecation, and insecurities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only times I allowed myself to feel truly present were when I was drunk or high. Like much of the world, substances helped quiet my mind, allowing my body to enter a trance of free expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But <a><\/a>that freedom came with consequences\u2014hangovers, lowered immunity, high stress, and even more anxiety after each night out. It felt like being in my body required a cost I couldn\u2019t afford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until I discovered embodiment: practices that help us feel fully present *without* the side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First came yoga\u2014a diligent practice of breathing, moving, and stretching in ways I\u2019d never known. Then I learned to dance sober.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ecstatic dances revealed just how wild and free I could feel, no \u201cassistance\u201d needed. Learning how to talk about my feelings opened doors to emotional freedom. While I once ignored my emotions, they ruled my life. Articulating them finally set me free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I began allowing pleasure into my life as a form of self-care, noticing when my feelings were coming from parts of me that needed love, and learning how to give those parts the care they deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people explore the world outside, but going within to explore the complex, multidimensional beings we are on the inside is a journey in itself. Seven years into embodiment, I feel a calm and softness in my being. Empowerment isn\u2019t a fight anymore\u2014it\u2019s simply my way of being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, while at the sauna with a friend, she commented, \u201cYou don\u2019t even notice how comfortable you are compared to everyone else who\u2019s self-conscious, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes and no, I replied. I remember the days of questioning every move, monitoring myself, my clothes, my words. I know what it\u2019s like to feel uncomfortable in your own skin, and I have deep empathy for it.
