Sara-la-Kali (Black Sara) is deeply beloved — especially as a dark-skinned patron saint venerated by Roma people and those drawn to the sacred feminine. The annual pilgrimage in late May brings thousands to this little town in the Camargue, where her statue is carried from the crypt of the church down to the sea for the blessing of the waters. It’s one of the most visually striking and spiritually charged gatherings in Europe.
